Padel Court Conversion, Worcester
A 1,200 m² warehouse in Worcester was converted into new padel courts, requiring a smooth, level base for the artificial turf sports surface. ECO by ANHYDRITEC — a low-carbon, cement-free liquid screed — was supplied by Tarmac and installed by Screed and That in a single day across 10 loads, delivering an excellent finish ready for the specialist flooring.
The Challenge
Padel is currently the fastest growing sport in the UK with an estimated 800,000 regular players. Strong demand for courts has resulted in old warehouse and retail spaces being converted into new padel courts.
This 1,200 m² warehouse in Worcester needed a high-quality floor to install the finished artificial turf sports surface. The finished floor would need to be smooth and even, with minimum joints, for a safe trip-free surface and a consistent bounce and playing performance. It would also need to be strong enough to cope with the impact of daily use by players. Speed of completion was also important to meet the client's programme times.
The Solution
ECO by ANHYDRITEC is a low-carbon, cement-free liquid floor screed that can be pumped into place quickly over large areas, meaning that the entire floor area could be completed in a single day.
It is suitable for foot traffic within 24–48 hours and is less prone to shrinkage than sand cement screeds, requiring fewer construction joints and minimising the risk of cracking. It can be installed at lower floor depths than sand-cement screed and has a relatively high strength ranging from 25–35 N/mm². Using ECO would help to deliver the best possible base for the installation of the specialist surface and help stay on track with the build programme.
